SELF-FUNDED students at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) who have settled all outstanding debts can register for the second semester without a deposit, while those with outstanding debt must reduce it to at least N$10,000 to avoid paying a deposit.
This was announced by Nashilongo Gervasius, NUST’s Acting Director of Corporate Engagement and Internationalisation, who emphasised that registration at the institution must be completed by Friday, 9 August 2024, as there will be no extension beyond that date.
“Students unable to reduce their debt to N$10,000 or less and without payment plans from prior semesters must pay a N$2,250 deposit and sign a payment plan for the current semester. Students with previous payment plans who cannot reduce their balance to N$10,000 or less must reduce that balance by at least 50% and sign a new payment plan for the current semester. Thus, students are required to make monthly payments to clear their outstanding debt by December 2024,” Gervasius explained.
She also advised orphans and marginalised students to consult the Office of the Director of Student Services with the required documentation supporting their social status. These initiatives, she emphasised, are part of the institution’s ongoing commitment to supporting students and ensuring they have the opportunity to pursue their studies without interruption.
“The university understands and empathises with the financial challenges that some of our students may be facing. We encourage those experiencing difficulties to engage with our financial aid and student support services. Our goal is to work collaboratively with students to find feasible solutions that enable them to continue their academic journeys,” Gervasius added.
