THE Namibian Police Force has renovated its traffic, border, and infrastructure protection facility at Oshakati after years of dilapidation, costing N$1.5 million.
The facility, constructed in the late 70s, had reached the end of its lifespan, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security to allocate funds for the project.
During the official handover of the facility on Saturday, NamPol Inspector-General Joseph Shikongo said that the renovation covered both the interior and exterior of the facility, with work conducted from March to June 2024.
According to Shikongo, they visited these infrastructures in January and found them in a severely dilapidated state. Resources were immediately allocated for the renovation to give the facility a new outlook.
“This place was in horrible condition, but now there are showers and toilets available for use. We have revamped the entire area, removing the old floors, tiles, and roof,” he said.
He added that they aim to dispel the perception that police stations are not well maintained. Therefore, they are making necessary improvements to provide their staff with a decent working environment.
Shikongo also directed that the certification and declaration of copies must now be done at the traffic offices to avoid congestion at the charge office.
