THIS year’s Omagongo Season is officially over, having reached its zenith with the hosting of the annual Omagongo Cultural Festival at the Onambango Palace of Omukwaniilwa Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo of the Ondonga Traditional Authority (OTA) on Saturday. The traditional authorities are resuming their normal activities, and the omagongo-time restrictions have been lifted—until next year, at the same time.
The festivities at the Onambango Palace congregated political, traditional, and religious leaders, as well as people from all walks of life and from all corners of the country.
Besides President Nangolo Mbumba, who was the keynote speaker, and King Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo, the host, the festival-goers were also addressed by Nahas Angula, the chairperson of the Omagongo preparatory committee; OTA chairman John Walenga; historian Angula Ndjembo; the chairperson of the Eight Traditional Authorities of Aawambo, Chief Herman Iipumbu; and Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who introduced the keynote speaker.
The unified yearly Omagongo Festival is hosted on a rotational basis by the eight OTAs at the close of the Omagongo Season.
