A NUMBER of places from the North to the South witnessed significant rain showers this past weekend, and more are expected this week.
The Khomas Region stands out as one of the regions that saw impressive rainfall this weekend. According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, Windhoek, Okahua, and Claratal in the Khomas Region recorded 19.2 millimetres (mm), 11.5mm, and 6.5mm of rain respectively between Saturday and Sunday morning. Okahua recorded an additional 5mm of rain between Sunday and Monday morning as well.
However, these are not the only places within the Khomas Region that received rain this weekend. Various photos and videos shared on Facebook indicate that other places within the region, such as Elisenheim, also witnessed rainfall and even hail during this period.
Beyond the Khomas Region, various other places also experienced rain showers this weekend. In the South, Rehoboth in the Hardap Region recorded 9.5mm of rain between Saturday and Sunday morning, while Karasburg in the //Kharas Region recorded 16.9mm of rain during the same period.
Photos and videos of Karasburg’s weekend showers have been widely shared online. Some of these videos, particularly those shared by Facebook users Marchel Waters and Jaco Engelbrecht, show how the south’s weekend rain left the streets of Karasburg drenched.
Other places that witnessed rain showers this weekend include Okapya in the Omusati Region, Gobabis in the Omaheke Region, and Otavi in the Otjozondjupa Region, which recorded 14.2mm, 4.8mm, and 4mm of rain respectively between Saturday and Sunday morning. Additionally, Sandveld in the Omaheke Region and Kanovlei in the Otjozondjupa Region recorded 5.2mm and 2.5mm of rain between Sunday and Monday morning.
More rain showers are expected this week in several places spanning from the North to the South. The Namibia Meteorological Services highlighted Rundu, Ondangwa, Windhoek, and Keetmanshoop as some of the places that will likely see rain showers between today and Wednesday.
