PREPARATIONS are well underway to ensure that the nation’s annual Independence Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm, with just hours to go.
The 34th celebration, held under the theme “A People United for Prosperity,” will take place at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex.
The day honours the nation’s heroes and heroines for their sacrifices and the advancements made since the beginning of self-rule. It also commemorates the country’s independence from colonial rule.
Zambezi Regional Governor Lawrence Alufea Sampofu stated that they are currently busy with final preparations, and the flags are flying high.
According to Sampofu, they expect 12,000 people from all walks of life to participate in the national celebration, and they are ready to host all Namibians.
Regarding safety and security, he indicated that the men and women in uniform are prepared to provide the necessary services to ensure the protection of lives and property of those attending.
“We have received nine buses to pick up attendees from our constituencies during and after the celebration,” he said.
He added that they have also received enough food to cater to everyone.
Sampofu then called on all Namibians to make their way to the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex to celebrate the country’s independence.
Last year, the celebration was held in the Omusati Region.
