Man allegedly drowned while fishing

ANOTHER case of drowning has been reported by the Namibian Police Force in the Omusati Region, where a 39-year-old man reportedly drowned while allegedly fishing at Auyongolo Lake/Dam, Osisiya Village, in the Outapi Constituency.

The deceased was identified as Simon Enghali Akushanga.

This marks the second drowning incident reported in the region involving people fishing.

The first incident occurred five days ago when Akushanga Simon Petrus Eita Shipingana Tangomwene (13) reportedly drowned while catching fish with his friends at Okano Dam. The deceased began to swim, and in the process, went deep into the water.

Omusati Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho, said that Akushanga’s body was discovered floating in the lake on Wednesday morning.

“It is alleged that the deceased was last seen on Monday when he went fishing at Osisiya village and did not return home. The family then reported a missing person case at Outapi police station on Tuesday,” he said.

He added that it is further alleged that the family continued searching until they discovered the body floating in the lake on Wednesday, after being informed by members of the public.

Simaho indicated that no foul play is suspected in the matter.
