A FEW interior areas, particularly in the North, have recently witnessed impressive rainfall, and more is expected as the new month of March begins.

Among the places that recently witnessed impressive rainfall is Omusati Region’s Oshaambelo, which, according to Namibia Meteorological Services, recorded 50 millimetres (mm) of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning alone.

Oshaambelo is not the only place in the Omusati Region that experienced remarkable rainfall on Wednesday. In fact, the region’s impressive rainfall is depicted in a photo shared by Facebook user Anne-Marie Marais, showcasing the recent rainfall in Omusati Region’s Epalela. According to the same Facebook user, Epalela recorded 45mm of rain by Thursday morning.

Beyond the Omusati Region, several other northern areas also received light to moderate rainfall between Wednesday and Thursday morning. This includes, but is not limited to, Kamanjab in Kunene Region and Engombe in Oshana Region, which recorded 15.4mm and 8.5mm of rain respectively during the specified period.

The North is also not the only area that benefited from recent rainfall. Several places in the Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, and Khomas regions also experienced light to moderate rain showers between Wednesday and Thursday.

In the Otjozondjupa Region, Grootfontein and Otavi recorded 30.4mm and 16mm of rain respectively between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Omaheke Region’s Sandveld and Khomas Region’s Okahua recorded 18.5mm and 6mm of rain respectively during the same period.

According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, additional rainfall is anticipated in some interior areas on Friday. These showers will likely be primarily focused on the Kunene and Erongo regions, where moderate to heavy showers are expected.

However, several other interior areas beyond the Kunene and Erongo regions can also expect some rain as Namibia Meteorological Services highlighted Ondangwa, Windhoek, and Keetmanshoop as some of the interior places likely to experience rain showers on Friday.

Namibia Meteorological Services’ latest forecast also suggests that the northern and central coastal areas are likely to witness showers on Friday as well. Walvis Bay was identified as one of the coastal areas that will likely see rain showers on Friday.
