POLICE in the Oshana Region are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the death of a 34-year-old man who was allegedly struck and killed at the CTM traffic light in Ongwediva.
The deceased, identified as Immanuel Alfred Natuumbeni, commonly known as Uuntaga, was a resident of Elyambala village in Ongwediva.
According to Oshana Commander Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, the incident occurred around 23:00 on Sunday.
“It is alleged that the driver of a motor vehicle with Windhoek registration was travelling from Ongwediva toward Oshakati and collided with the pedestrian who was crossing the road from Fresh Idea Bar toward CTM store (opposite),” Sakaria said.
The victim died at the scene.
Sakaria said that the driver was tested for alcohol, and the concentration of alcohol in the driver’s system was 1.20 Mg/L. The 23-year-old man has already been arrested.
He indicated that the suspect faces charges of culpable homicide and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
