Unidentified man dies after car smashes into bridge

Staff Reporter

AN unidentified driver lost his life in the morning hours today after his car crashed into a bridge near Brakwater, close to the B1 bridge.

The impact of the crash allegedly caused the car to be cut in half and catch fire, resulting in the driver’s instant death.

According to Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga, media liaison officer within the Namibian police, the fatal accident occurred on 2 February 2024 at about 02:30 AM on the B1 near the weighbridge under the bridge.

“According to the investigation, the driver/deceased, not yet identified, was driving from the southern direction towards the north when he either accidentally or intentionally left the road at high speed and collided with the centre pillar of the bridge, which separates the B1 right and left lanes. The ML SUV, with no registration number yet identified, was cut into two halves, causing it to catch fire simultaneously, and the vehicle scattered into pieces. The driver died instantly.

Police investigation continues,” Chief Inspector Kuwinga said.
