THE Namibian police in the Ohangwena Region report that the now-ending festive season was relatively better than the previous ones concerning violent crimes and road accidents.
Police Community Affairs Officer Andrew Nghiyolwa said that while the number of housebreakings remains high, it is attributed to house owners’ failure to heed the police’s warning against leaving their houses unattended during vacations and residents’ failure to establish neighbourhood watch programs in their respective areas.
Nghiyolwa mentioned that a number of petty crimes, such as shoplifting, pickpocketing, and fistfights, were recorded, but there were only a few serious crimes. He added, “Road accidents and accompanying fatalities and injuries were also low, representing a significant improvement when compared to previous festive seasons.”
