SEVERAL places in the interior parts of the country have received light to considerable rainfall over the past five days, and more rain is expected this week.

The Hardap Region stands out in terms of rainfall received over the past few days, with various areas within the region reporting significant rainfall since Thursday. These places include Aranos, which recorded 20 millimetres (mm) of rain between Thursday and Friday. It also includes Farm Wilheben and Virunga, which recorded 37mm and 18mm of rainfall between Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The Omaheke Region also saw impressive rainfall recently, with Farm Masindi and Charakoe recording 38mm and 10mm of rain, respectively, between Friday and Saturday. Omaheke Region’s capital, Gobabis, also received considerable rainfall recently. This can be seen in photos shared by Facebook user Tom Knoesen, who revealed that the town recently recorded about 15mm of rain.

However, the rainfall was not limited to these two regions alone. In fact, several places in the north-eastern parts of the country also received some rainfall over the past few days. According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, Zambezi Region’s Rupara National Park and surrounding areas recorded 6mm of rain between Thursday and Friday, followed by another 20mm of rain between Friday and Saturday.

Other north-eastern areas, such as Kavango West’s Alex Muranda, recorded 2.4mm of rain between Thursday and Friday, while Zambezi Region’s Katima Mulilo recorded 8.1mm of rain between Sunday and Monday morning.

For many places, this rainfall followed a heatwave, with some areas experiencing temperatures of 40°C or higher. According to the Namibia Meteorological Service, more rain showers are expected this week, especially in the northern half of the interior on Thursday, which is expected to intensify on Friday.
