AUGUST is an exciting month for Moon enthusiasts, as the month began with a supermoon and will end with another.
A supermoon occurs when the Moon is full during the closest point in its orbit around Earth, making it appear larger and brighter than usual.
The month kicked off with the Full Sturgeon Moon, and social media users have shared captivating full Moon photos from various locations across the country, ranging from Rundu in the Kavango East Region to Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas Region.

For those who haven’t witnessed the majestic full Moon yet, there’s still hope. According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Moon will remain full until Thursday. Additionally, NASA mentioned that the planet Saturn will be visible near the Moon between Wednesday and Thursday when the Moon reaches its highest point.
However, there’s more good news for Moon enthusiasts: this month will also end with another full Moon, known as a Blue Moon. This means that the Moon is expected to be even closer on 30th August.
Both the Full Sturgeon Moon and the Blue Moon are quite rare. The Blue Moon only occurs when there are two full Moons in a single month.
