THE east wind has caused significant damage to the roof of a house in the central business district area of Walvis Bay a few hours ago. The strong wind has been raging since around 01:00 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Namibian Police’s Traffic Unit is considering temporarily closing the MR44 dual carriage highway behind the dune belt that connects Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.
The heavy dust storms are severely limiting truckers’ visibility on the road, causing them to slow down or stop alongside the road. This poses a high risk of rear-end collisions, and if the situation worsens, the highway may be closed for several hours until the windy conditions subside.
