DEHORNING: The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has commenced a Rhino Dehorning exercise in Etosha National Park. The Environment Minister, Pohamba Shifeta, explained that the Ministry’s objective is to dehorn a significant number of Rhinos in the park to deter poaching incidents since the animals hold little value to poachers without their horns. Shifeta also highlighted that Rhinos are highly territorial creatures and occasionally engage in fatal conflicts with each other using their horns, resulting in a decrease in their population numbers.
