HELENA Lenga, a female resident of the Onyaanya village in the Oshikoto Region who allegedly exhibited suicidal thoughts on several occasions, was hit and killed by a vehicle Tuesday evening.
The incident occurred on the Omuthiya-Ondangwa main road near Punyu Makaya in the Onamulunga village.
It is alleged that a silver Volkswagen with Ondangwa number plate was heading to Ondangwa when the driver allegedly noticed “dust on the road” before the vehicle “bumped into something”.
“He turned back and discovered that he had bumped a human being, now the deceased,” said the police.
The victim was taken to the Onandjokwe Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
The police revealed further that Lenga spent time at her boyfriend’s shebeen at Iihwali village and when she left she told her lover that she was going to stand on the road “to die”.
Villagers, including the Lenga’s boyfriend, informed the police that the deceased had problems with members of her family and that was not the first time she walked to the road “to die”.
The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide against the driver who is a 29-year-old resident of Ondangwa.
