GIPF warns annuitants against scammers

Business Reporter

IN the latest scam alert, the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) is cautioning its clients against people who are pretending to be from the fund and who are calling and approaching GIPF members, requesting to be provided with personal financial information.

The GIPF explained that this is a scam and the aim is to get the personal information of GIPF clients to access their money.
The fund further shared that the scammers come in many forms, as the caller might ask for the clients banking details or ID numbers and pretend as if they are working for GIPF, while some may pretend as if they are working for one of the commercial banks, and in some instances informing clients that they are appointed by GIPF as “Agents”.

GIPF members have been warned that the fund will never (ever) call and ask for your personal information, or require its members to pay for any of the services or benefits GIPF offers as a Fund.

Annuitants are advised to never give their GIPF information to anyone who contacts them as the GIPF will always ask clients to submit physical documents to one of its offices.

“Remember that anyone who request you to provide your personal information via cellphone number or private/withheld numbers is a scammer, no matter who they say they are. When transacting or using facilities such as E-wallet, Blue Wallet, Easy Wallet, never give your One-Time-PIN (OTP) to anyone. If you are worried about a call from someone who claims to be from the GIPF, call GIPF soonest at 061 – 205 1000 or any of our regional offices. Alternatively, email us at info@gipf.com.na,” the fund said.
