We are ready to combat crime, says Sakaria

THE Namibian police are well prepared to combat criminality, said Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, the Oshana Regional commander.

He said that the law enforcement agency has recently kicked off with a crime prevention and combating drive known as Operation Amazing, which is meant to reduce crime in the region.

The launching of the operation coincided with the celebration of the 33rd independence anniversary, a time when the region had a big number of visitors and an increased traffic flow as thousands of Namibians traveled through the region on their way to and from Outapi where the national event took place on 21 March.

“We managed to maintain law and prevent crime,” said Sakaria.
He said that, since the begging of the month, 18 people have been arrested for drunk driving in Ondangwa, Ongwediva and Oshakati.
Sakaria warned that there will be no mercy for those who drive under the influence of alcohol, what he said occurs mostly at month’s end.
He said that in case of being intoxicated, a vehicle owner can request police assistance. His or her vehicle would be driven to their place of residence or parked at the closest police station.

Sakaria explained the police are taking these steps to reduce accidents and deaths in the area.
He said that police officers shall, once again, be active this weekend to ensure safety and security.
