Five minor girls raped over weekend

THE number of rape cases against juveniles committed over the weekend has steadily increased, according to the Namibian police.

This is after, five cases of rape against minors were reported to the authorities in separate locations, the youngest victim was seven years old.

In one incident, a 30-year-old Angolan male allegedly sexually assaulted a seven-year-old minor girl on Thursday in the Okambogo village-Onyaanya area.

The culprit was taken into custody.

In Onesi, the police is yet to arrest a man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl at Omalyadhila village on Thursday.

“The suspect is known and is yet to be arrested,” said the police in the weekend report issued on Sunday.

Furthermore, in Rundu, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 26-year-old cousin at Ncuse village, Kavango East region.

“It is alleged that the suspect found the victim sleeping in her room fully dressed in her school uniform, grabbed her and covered her mouth with his hands and raped her,” said the police.

Meanwhile, in Ongwediva, a 15-year-old girl was raped at Omatando location Ongwediva in the Oshana region, by a known suspect.

The victim was on her way from school, when the suspect grabbed her and threatened her up to the room and raped her.

The suspect is known but not yet arrested.

At Epembe, a 14-year-old girl was reportedly raped by a known suspect at Oshiweda village on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at an unknown time in the afternoon.

It is alleged that the suspect raped the victim on four different occasions and at different places.

“The last incident took place after the victim returned from school,” said the police.

The suspect is known but not yet arrested.

Police investigations in all five cases are underway.
