NamBTS still need blood donors

NamBTS still need blood donors

Maria David

EVERY two seconds, someone needs blood, hence the need for blood is constant.

This lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation. But only 1% of the population donates blood yearly.

The Namibian Blood Transfusion Service (NamBTS) on Saturday received a total of 66 blood donations at their headquarters in Windhoek.

Of those donations made, 35 of these donations come from donors with the O blood groups while 6 donors donated for the very first time.

Titus Shivute Supervisor, Marketing and Donor Relations, said despite their effort to feel up the shortage of blood supply through their drive, the bloodstock levels are still low around the country.

Shivute is appealing to all Namibians to donate at any of the fixed site centres in Windhoek, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Ondangwa, or Oshakati this week to help rebuild the supply.

According to him, the desired blood supply is a 9-day blood stock level which would ensure that there are sufficient blood and blood products throughout hospitals countrywide.
