PREPARATIONS are underway for the 15th edition of the Elombe and Sports Tournament that is slotted to take place at Elombe from Thursday to Saturday.
Event organiser, Hossy Idipo, said that a total amount of N$10 000 was put aside as prize money for the winning teams.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with N$5 000 plus a floating trophy and gold medals for the players.
The runner-up team becomes N$3 000 richer and each player receives a silver medal.
The third placed team will receive N$2 000 plus bronze medals.
Idipo said that many teams have registered already, but pointed out that participation in this year’s competition is limited to 32 teams only. Normal registration closes today (Tuesday), but a window for late registration will be opened Friday.
The normal registration fee is N$450, but those registering late will pay N$100 more.
The tournament was established with the aim of promoting sports at the grassroots level.
The proceedings are donated to the Elombe Combined School.
