A 31-year-old man, identified as Ndahangetate Frans, was fatally shot by a 54-year-old businessman in Swakopmund after he allegedly attempted to get into a customer’s pocket, which resulted in a heated commotion.
The incident happened on Monday at around 17H00, at Bingo Bar in the DRC Informal Settlement.
According to the police report, the commotion ensued shortly after a customer arrived with a bicycle at the suspect’s bar and inquired about the price of a beer crate that he wanted to buy. It is reported that, in the process, the deceased went into the customer’s pocket and this resulted in a commotion. The deceased allegedly went on to grab the customer’s bicycle with the intention to take it away.
While the battle between the customer and the deceased persisted, the suspect allegedly intervened and asked the deceased to leave the man alone and to depart from his property.
It is alleged that the deceased and is friends, who were armed with knives, got angry at the suspect and cornered him against a nearest ghetto, which later turned into an exchange of blows.
The suspect purportedly drew his pistol and fired a single shot in the air to scare the attacking men. Two of the attackers retracted from the fight, but the deceased stormed at the suspect from the back.
The suspect allegedly further fired another shot and struck the deceased below the left lower ribs. He was rushed to Swakopmund State Hospital by his family members in a taxi, but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
According to the authorities, the deceased was searched at hospital and found with a black knife in his waist.
Meanwhile, the pistol used by the suspect was seized by the police and the suspect was detained for safe custody.
