THE Namibian police in the Oshana Region have arrested three suspects who were caught red-handed pretending to be police officers.
The incident occurred on the Oshakati-Onhuno main road Wednesday afternoon.
It is alleged that five suspects, using a red Polo Vivo with registration number N230-000ND, set up a roadblock at Ondjodjo village and pretended to be traffic law enforcement officers.
They were wearing reflector jackets resembling those used by the police.
An Angolan driver, travelling from the direction of Endola to Oshakati was stopped and an alert Namibian driver quickly notified the police.
Three suspects, all residents of the Oshoopala informal settlement of Oshakati, were apprehended, but two others managed to run away. One of those who escaped left his driver’s license in their vehicle which was apprehended.
According to the police, the three suspects will appear in the magistrate’s court on Friday.
