SWAPO is the only mature political party – Geingob

PRESIDENT Hage Geingob said SWAPO is the only political party that can govern and transform Namibia as it is the only “mature political party”.
Geingob said this during the opening of the 7th SWAPO Party Congress, where he declared that “only a matured political party in which the rank and file is united in conscience, spirit and action can lead Namibia”. This party, according to him, is SWAPO.

The 7th SWAPO Congress started on Friday and will end on Sunday, after the party elects a new party vice-president, secretary general and deputy secretary general. The congress is being held under the theme “SWAPO Party United and Marching Towards Socio-economic Development for All Namibians”.

During the opening ceremony of the 7th SWAPO Party Congress, Geingob said that he is aware that people are unhappy with SWAPO’s failure to address the challenges that plague many. He highlighted housing delivery, employment creation and poverty eradication as some of the issues that he knows needs attention.

“People are talking about how unhappy they are. I understand that, but hold what you have and build on it,” he said.

According to Geingob, SWAPO is the only party that can address the country’s challenges and achieve the overall mission of prosperity for all Namibians.

“Only SWAPO can complete this task and achieve the overall mission of prosperity for all Namibians because SWAPO believes in the dignity of the people of Namibia,” Geingob said.

He added that SWAPO’s ability to achieve prosperity for all Namibians is evidenced by the progress that the country has made during the past 32 years.

“The Namibia is not the same Namibia of 32 years ago, which was characterised by poverty and oppression of majority of our people. The Namibia in which we live today is worlds apart from apartheid Namibia under colonialism. I don’t know why people don’t want to see this point,” Geingob said.
