MTC-Kilimanjaro donates sanitary pads

THE MTC-Kilimanjaro Boxing Club on Tuesday donated 144 packs of sanitary pads to girls at Ahiokoto Primary School in the Okahao circuit.

This forms part of the club’s initiatives to plough back to the community and at the same time help a Namibian child to stay in school.

Founder of the MTC-Kilimanjaro Joseph Benhard, said they are doing everything possible to empower the girl child and save them from missing school during their menstruation.

Benhard indicated that the menstrual cycle is a natural process which should not defer girls from participating fully in their schoolwork.

Hence, he said that they are working around the clock to ensure that the girl child is given an equal opportunity to attend classes just like boys.

“The cost of menstrual products has soared so high that many are unable to afford the luxury of owning any sanitary pad, and we want to solve the poverty of menstruation one pad at a time,” he said.

He added sponsorship does not mean they have a lot to offer, but that they wish to meet government half-way.

School head Nestor Aipinge thanked the club for reaching out to the school, and added that this is a indication that learners in remote areas are not forgotten.

Aipinge stated that the donation will benefit 21 learners from Grade 4-7.

Ahiokoto PS accommodates a total of 205 learners from pre-primary to Grade 7. The school employs eight teachers and one support staff member.
