HE was a ranger of huge standing in Kruger National Park. A massive mountain of a man with a legacy to match. In 1979 he began working as a trails ranger, he was later promoted to Section Ranger of Woodlands until his retirement in 2011 after 32 years of service to Kruger and its wildlife. He then worked as a freelance safari and tourist guide.
According to the local Shangaan people, Mabarule was the name of a Shangaan Chief who had huge feet and with his size 14 boots, it was inevitable that Johans colleagues would name him after this.
Rest well Oom Johan. A life well lived. Condolences to Jocelyn and the family and his many colleagues. For those that knew Johan well please share a story or two.
