Land belongs to all Namibians – Geingob

ACCESS to land remains one of the basic needs of the people, according to President Hage Geingob.

Geingob stated that the government remains committed and has developed legislative frameworks to guide the proper and orderly administration and distribution of land in the country.

“In respect of communal land, the government has put systems in place to make sure that communal land is administered and managed in the interests, especially of the people who are living in those areas,” he said.

He added that government does this by including Chiefs or Traditional Authority in the communal land administration structures such as Communal Land Boards.

Geingob stated that it has however been noted with great concern that some Traditional Authorities and leaders have been encouraging illegal fencing off of communal land and allocation of communal lands, and the proceeds of such illegal actions benefit them.

He stated that this corrupt practice must be nipped in the bud immediately.
