A MOMENT of silence was observed in remembrance of all traditional leaders who died as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2021.
The moment of silence was observed during the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Council of Traditional leaders held at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on Monday.
Those were Chief Vekuui Rukoro of Ovaherero, Chief Eduard Afrikaner of Afrikaner, Chief Kilus Nguvauva of Ovambanderu, Chief Hubert Tidimalo Ditshabue of Bakgalagadi, Chief Joel Stephanus of Vaalgras, Chief Kiddo Maiba Moraliswani of Masubia and Chief Petrus Simon Moses Kooper of Kai //Khaun.
President Hage Geingob requested all those in attendance to observe a moment of silence in memory and honour of all traditional leaders who succumbed to Covid-19 and related illnesses, saying that may their souls rest in peace.
However, Geingob urged the leaders to pick up the baton of progress, where they left off and to ensure that their dreams and aspirations will be fulfilled by current and future generations of Namibians.
“While Covid-19 has negatively impacted our lives, it has not broken us, but has rather helped to unleash our resilience, courage and our desire to work together as a united people,” he said.
He added that in the doom and gloom of fighting the pandemic, they have witnessed a development that should inspire them to pursue their nation-building agenda.
Geingob indicated that the war that they waged against Covid-19 brought together Namibians of all ages, from all walks of life, from all economic sectors, who set aside race, tribe, religion and politics, and held hands for the good of the nation.
