A fire that destroyed a thatched roof in Pioniers Park raised the alarm on clearing the borderlines of yards with fires still raging in the municipality properties surrounding Windhoek.
The CITY of Windhoek (CoW) urged residents to clean the outsides of their yards at least 3 meters around the perimeter to improve protection against fires in open spaces.
“We would like to call home owners to practice the required 3-meter cleaning of shrubs/weed around their properties in order to reduce the risk of catching fire” She stated.
While adding that the wildfire that caused the thatched roof of home in Pioneers Park has been contained, Amuntenya further indicated the team is on the ground and providing full support to extinguish the fire at the affected house.
In two separate incidents, wildfires were reported on the Daan Viljoen road as well as near the Windhoek – Hosea Kutako International Airport roads, that have been raging for the past two days.
Residents, motorists and home owners are requested to be vigilant as the city scuffles with fire incidents around town, following several fire incidences reported this week. The CoW has further encouraged residents to practice safety and be alert of the wildfire around the city.
