Civil servants show up in big numbers on strike ballot

A large number of civil servants could be observed at the Government Park Auditorium and the Parliament building, ready to cast their votes on whether to go ahead with striking or not.

This comes after failed salary negotiations with the government, which has been ongoing since March 2021.

The two unions spearheading the nationwide balloting process, NAPWU and NANTU, are demanding increments in basic salaries by 9%, housing benefits (9%) and transport benefits (10%).

Government has stated that should the decision be taken to go ahead with a strike, it will not pay salaries of striking employees.
