Oshakati woman married for 17 years without her knowledge

Placido Hilukilwa

THE Namibian police in the Oshana Region are since last year investigating a strange case of fraud in which a female Namibian citizen got “married” to a Kenyan man without knowing it.

She does not know the man and did not attend the alleged wedding at the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court 17 years ago.

The alleged marriage was contracted on 11 November 2005.
The police did neither identify the woman nor reveal how she discovered her status as a “legally married woman”.

She is definitely not happy about it.

Her alleged husband was identified as Jeremiah Mbugua Kamau, born in Kenya on 10 November 1978, and who was then employed at Nando’s at Oshakati.

Attempts to trace him in Namibia have so far been unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Kamau’s Namibian wife is “stuck in a marriage without a husband”.

Anyone who knows where Kamau is, is urged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Stefanus, at the Oshakati Criminal Investigations Unit (081 3299299) or any nearest police station.
