RESIDENTS of the Okeeke village in the Ogongo Constituency of the Omusati Region are up in arms against a local businessman and horticulturalist, accusing him of “misappropriating” water.
Residents say that Maurus Valombola uses a water pump to pump water from an earth dam, that is accessible to all villagers, to a smaller pond inside his enclosure. He then uses the water in his horticulture project.
Villagers fear that the earth dam will be emptied gradually, leaving the community without water for their livestock, while Valombola would still have water for his horticulture project.
They are urging the Uukwambi Traditional Authority (UTA) to intervene.
A UTA source confirmed to Informanté that the tribal authority is aware of the brewing conflict between the community and the businessman and a conflict resolution team might the dispatched to the areas as soon as Thursday or Friday.
