SPAIN’S Ambassador to Namibia Antonio Javier Romera Pintor on Wednesday bid farewell to President Geingob at State House, where he reemphasized the importance of a strengthened relationship between the two states.
He also confirmed the three memorandums of agreement that the Spanish mission to Namibia has been working on for the past four years. One of these is the establishment of the Madrid Foundation in Namibia.
The ambassador stated that the Spanish government has for a long time been waiting for the final authorization of the Madrid Foundation, a matter pending at the Office of the Attorney General.
According to Pintor, the Madrid Foundation will run and manage a sports facility in Katutura, providing sports related training to the Namibian people.
“The initiative is called Socially Sports School because it’s not for privileged people. So, from our side, everything is finalized. We are just waiting for the green light from the Attorney General,” he said.
The ambassador said the Government of Namibia will not be required to spend any cent, as it will be fully funded by a Spanish institution. The Real Madrid football club will be responsible for the provision of training.
Pintor, who has been in the country for four years, expressed his gratitude to the Namibian people for a memorable and peaceful stay during his tenure. He is set to leave the country in two weeks.
President Geingob acknowledged the well-established relationship between Spain and Namibia, while at the same time wishing Ambassador Pintor the best of luck in his new endeavours.
