THE Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture is seeking the public’s input to finalise the 2023 academic calendar for government schools and has therefore shared two draft academic calendars for the public to choose from.
The first option has 196 school days in total for learners. With this option, the first semester, which will have 92 school days, will start on 26 January and end on 9 June for learners, while teachers will start on 12 January and end on 14 June. The second semester, which will have 104 school days, will then start on 10 July and end on 8 December for learners, while teachers will start on 6 July and end on 13 December.
The second option comes with 195 school days in total for learners, with the first semester having 97 school days and the second having 98. In this case, the 2023 academic year for government schools will start on 9 January and end on 9 June for learners, while teachers will start on 5 January and end on 14 June. The second semester will then start on 18 July and end on 8 December for learners, while teachers will start on 17 July and end on 12 December.
Both draft academic calendars, which are available on the ministry’s social media pages, come with two mid-term breaks for the year. With option one, the mid-term breaks will be from 3 to 10 April and again from 11 to 15 September and with the second option, the mid-term breaks will be from 11 to 14 April and again from 18 to 22 September.
The ministry said that the last day to vote for a preference will be on 3 June and the finalised 2023 academic calendar for government schools will be available at the end of June.
