THE Ondangwa Town Council has commenced with the construction of two parks at Onantsi and Oluno aimed at providing children with healthy entertainment.
The two parks will be constructed at the cost of N$780 000 and the contract was awarded to Northern Side Floor World Cc.
Town spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said the parks will have children’s playground equipment.

She said the decision to construct more parks comes after the Council held consultation meetings with residents last year.
The community indicated that children have no facilities to spend leisure time and meet after school which if not addressed may result in them resorting to social ills such as alcohol abuse.
“The two parks to be constructed are additional to the other parks in town and Council will continue building more parks in town,” she said.
Shitalangaho-Mutikisha stated upon completion the community will take full ownership of the park.
The council received a donation of evergreen trees which will be planted at these parks once construction is completed.
Onantsi community leader Julieta Nuuyoma said the construction of the playground and parks in their area is an indication of community development the town leadership is aiming to achieve.
Nuuyoma stated that they are probably the first community to benefit from such an exciting development project from the council.
“We are pleased and happy to see development taking place in our informal areas and positive that the project will be completed fast,” she said.
She then urged people in their surroundings to help the contractors if the need arises to speed up the process of the project.
