NAMWATER has warned that a flood could occur at the eastern Zambezi floodplains as the Zambezi River at Katima Mulilo, which is already overflowing, continues to rise.
According to NamWater’s latest hydrology report, the Zambezi River stood at 4,71 m on Wednesday morning. This is 0,56 m higher than it was last week Wednesday, when the river was already overflowing, with water pushing into the eastern Zambezi floodplains.
The hydrology report indicates that the Zambezi River’s water level is not as high as it was last year this time. However, NamWater still emphasised the need for flood readiness for the eastern Zambezi floodplains.
Precautions are also advised for the northern regions, the Central High grounds and the Hardap region as flash-floods are likely to occur on Thursday, according to Namibia Meteorological Services.
