More flights than ever before: Eurowings Discover expands operations in Windhoek

Staff Reporter

THE influx of international travellers into Namibia is expected to increase exponentially with the Lufthansa Group announcing that Windhoek will become its most frequently served destination in the flight schedule of the Lufthansa Group leisure carrier Eurowings Discover (4Y).

The Airliner shared that from 27 March the airline will increase its offer from five to seven weekly flights between Frankfurt (Germany) and Windhoek, operated as year-round service. The program will then be further expanded to a total of ten weekly flights during northern summer peak season, lasting from July 2 to September 11, 2022.

The flights depart from Hosea Kutako International Airport every day in the early evening. The three additional services during the summer are scheduled on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing from Windhoek early in the morning.

Eurowings Discover is the only European airline currently offering direct flights between Europe and Namibia.

“Windhoek has been the third destination that we added to our flight schedule back in August 2021. Ever since, this service has been among our most popular and best booked routes which is why we are delighted to further expand our flight program to and from Windhoek this summer. We are grateful to our valued partners in Namibia for placing the trust in us to further strengthen their touristic market. Eurowings Discover has developed a long-term growth strategy for Namibia and the Southern African region to further support the attractiveness of Namibia for German and European holidaymakers,” said Wolfgang Raebiger, Chief Executive Officer of Eurowings Discover.

He further explained that regulatory approval has been granted to Eurowings Discover to also make their flights available for travellers from Namibia to fly to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

Thus, as of mid-April, travellers from Namibia are offered the possibility to visit the natural wonder of Victoria Falls in just two hours flight time.

Eurowings Discover is the first intercontinental airline ever to operate scheduled services to Victoria Falls.

“Since the inception of our flights to Windhoek, Eurowings Discover has proactively played a pivotal role in supporting the restart of tourism in Namibia. These flights have gained immense popularity and the increase in demand has prompted us to deliver additional flights to and from Windhoek, as well as introduce new direct flights between Windhoek and Victoria falls. In doing so, our customers will benefit from a wider variety of choices and better offers when planning their journey. Furthermore, we believe that by expanding our Lufthansa Group footprint in Southern Africa, we are underlining our commitment to the region”, Dr. Andre Schulz, General Manager of Lufthansa Group in Southern and East Africa concluded.
