A 37-YEAR-OLD man is under police guard at the Oshakati State Hospital after he attacked his housemates and a police officer with a panga, and then slit his throat.
The incident was reported on Friday at around 09:00 in the Ongwediva constituency.
According to Nampol’s weekend crime report, the police were called to Omaalala village where the suspect was destroying items in the house, as well as threatening and hitting his housemates with a panga.
“The suspect then became more violent when he saw the police officers and attacked one of them with the panga. The 44-year-old officer blocked the blow with his left arm and subsequently sustained a serious injury on the arm,” the police said.
The suspect then slit his own throat and was taken to hospital.
He faces a charge of attempted murder.
