Road infrastructure key to development

TO ensure development in the country, proper planning is required with access to roads as a priority and then development can follow.

These were the remarks of Minister of Works and Transport John Mutorwa at a recent meeting held with regional leadership and Roads Authority staff in Oshakati.

“It is important to link constituencies and unify regions to ensure development from region to region, and therefore road planning should be done,” he said.

Mutorwa said the Ministry aims to address challenges faced by the country, from road infrastructure to housing-related matters.

Oshana governor Elia Irimari said road infrastructure contributes immensely to the socio-economic development of the region.

Irimari stated that roads in Oshana are in very poor condition and to achieve focus and improvements in service delivery it is of vital importance to improve the roads infrastructure networks and increase accessibility.

“It becomes difficult for people to access some areas in times of calamities and unexpected emergencies,” he said.

Irimari said regular blading of gravel roads is essential “to minimize the effect of corrugation and ripples that make driving very slow and shaky”.
