SEVEN people have been detained in connection with two robberies reported at Maerua Mall on 17 January and Monday this week.
This follows after a joint sting operation was launched by the Namibian Police Force and City Police in pursuit of armed men who have on two occasions robbed business owners while on their way to deposit money.
On 17 January, robbers got away with N$480 000, a 9 mm pistol and a set of car keys.
No recoveries were made at the time.
On Monday, they robbed two women of N$162 000.
Nampol spokesperson Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga on Tuesday said they managed to recover N$18 000 in cash found in possession of one of the suspects, while N$8 700 was recovered from another suspect.
“Two vehicles believed to have been used in the commissioning of the crimes have been seized,” he said.
Kuwinga said a Toyota Corolla Quest used during both robberies has been recovered and the lawful owner identified.
“It was established that the owner is the mother of one of the suspects who is still at large,” he added.
Police investigation continues.
