Close to 4 000 Namibians lost their lives to Covid-19

THE widespread loss of lives caused by the coronavirus in the country has neared the 4 000-mark with a total of 3 974 Namibians dying due to Covid-19 to date.

Among the 87 newly confirmed cases, 43 are learners of which 37 are from Epako High School in Gobabis district and one student. Six cases are fully vaccinated while 81 cases are not vaccinated, accounting for 93.1% of the total confirmed cases.

This is according to the health update provided by the Ministry of Health and Social Services for 3 February.

The number of active cases stands at 8 047 of which 91 cases are hospitalized across 13 regions, excluding Kavango West.

Two of the hospitalized cases have received one dose of the vaccine, five are fully vaccinated, while 84 are not vaccinated constituting 92.3% of all hospitalized cases. Nine cases are in Intensive Care Units (ICU). None of the ICU cases are vaccinated.

The health ministry also announced one Covid-19 death. A 77- year-old male from the Tsandi district died at a health facility on 1 February. The deceased was not vaccinated.
