TO date, Covid-19 has caused the death of 3 823 people in Namibia.
Of the 329 cases currently hospitalized countrywide, 92.4% are unvaccinated as well as 97% of ICU cases.
A month-old baby is among the new cases.
Two deaths and 163 new infections from 1 242 results were reported in the last 24-hour cycle, which represents a 13% positivity ratio.
“We are reporting cases from 12 regions, with Khomas recording 35, constituting 21.4% of the total cases, followed by Otjozondjupa with 32, constituting 19.6% of the total cases,” the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced in the daily Covid-19 report.
All cases in Khomas are from Windhoek. In Otjozondjupa, 18 are from Grootfontein and 14 from Otjiwarongo. In the rest of the regions, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay recorded 8 each, Omaruru 2 and Usakos 2. There were 11 cases reported from Onandjokwe and 4 from Omuthiya. Outapi recorded 5 cases. In Keetmanshoop 7 cases were reported, as well as 3 in Lüderitz and 1 in Karasburg. Rundu reported 6 and Andara 3.
There were 9 cases recorded in Rehoboth, 5 in Opuwo, 3 in Gobabis and 1 each in Nkurenkuru and Oshakati.
Of the total confirmed cases, 158 are new cases and five are re-infections. The ages range from one month to 102 years.
Among the confirmed cases are 20 learners, one teacher, two students and four healthcare workers.
Of the total confirmed cases, 82.8% are not vaccinated.
The number of active cases is 9 828.
“We are reporting two Covid-19 deaths from the Oshikuku district. The deceased are two females aged 89 and 91 years respectively. Both passed away on 13 January and they both had co-morbidities. None of the deceased was vaccinated,” the Minister said.
By 15 January, 350 453 adults have completed their vaccination, translating to 23.8% of the target population, while 2 800 children aged 12 to 17 years have received one dose of the Pfizer vaccine, representing 0.9% of the target population (307 298). Of these, 562 are fully vaccinated.
In addition, 10 438 people have received a booster dose.
To date, 902 759 samples have been tested.
