OF the new Covid-19 cases reported in the last 24-hour cycle, 82% are unvaccinated while 92.6% of cases in Intensive Care Units have also not received vaccinations.
The Ministry of Health and Social Services announced 362 new positive cases from 1 081 results in the last cycle, which represents a 33.5% positivity ratio. The ages range from six days to 94 years.
The Omusati Region had the highest number with 89 cases, making up 24.5%, followed by Oshana with 81, constituting 22.3% of all newly confirmed cases.
In Omusati, Okahao reported 58 cases, Tsandi 14, Outapi 12 and Oshikuku five. In Oshana, 81 cases were reported in Oshakati.
One Covid-19 death and one Covid-19 related death from the Windhoek district were reported. A 53-year-old male with co-morbidities died at a health facility on 26 December. A 67-year-old male with co-morbidities died at a health facility on 27 December. One of the deceased was fully vaccinated and the other not.
Among the confirmed cases are 37 learners, ten teachers, six students and 12 healthcare workers from different institutions.
Eight cases have received one dose of the vaccine, 48 cases are fully vaccinated, three received booster shots (three doses), while six vaccinated cases did not specify the number of doses received. Of the new cases, 297 accounting for 82% are unvaccinated.
The number of active cases is 14 565. Hospitalized cases are currently at 335 across 13 regions, of which 27 are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Eight of the hospitalized cases have received one dose of the vaccine and 40 are fully vaccinated. Two cases in ICU are fully vaccinated while 25 (92.6%) are not vaccinated.
By 26 December, 403 489 people including 1 719 children aged 12 to 17 years have received one dose of the vaccine, representing 26.9% of the target population.
A total of 104 374 have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is administered as one dose, while 237 295 adults had received two doses of other vaccines. Therefore, 341 669 have completed the vaccination schedule, translating into 22.8% of the target population, while 4 482 people have received a booster dose.
