THE number of vaccinated people testing positive for the coronavirus has been on the upward trend, with a total of 291 vaccinated people testing positive for the virus over the past eight days.
This is according to statistics collected from daily Covid-19 updates starting 30 November 2021 to 7 December 2021.
Executive Director in the health ministry, Ben Nangombe, said the reason more and more vaccinated people are getting infected can be linked to the Omicron variant, which scientists believe is vaccine resistant.
Nangombe added that the confusion over daily figures showing an increased number of vaccinated people getting infected demonstrates that more intense public education on the transmission of the virus versus getting vaccinated is needed.

“Vaccines protect against severe illness and death. Even if you are vaccinated, but expose yourself to the virus, you will get infected. That’s why all persons, including those vaccinated, must comply with the public health regulations. Wear masks, keep distances and sanitize,” Nangombe said.
The Ministry of Health and Social Services today announced that a total 179 new Covid-19 cases from a testing sample of 1 827 in the 24 hours have been reported, which represents a 9.8% positivity ratio.
The number of active cases now stands at 1 034.
The health ministry stated that the number of hospitalized cases is gradually increasing as 39 people are currently in hospital, including the three in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
Four of the hospitalized cases are fully vaccinated, while the rest, including those in ICU, are not vaccinated.
The health ministry also announced one death from the Rundu district.
A woman, aged 94, with a known comorbidity died at home on 2 December.
The decease was not vaccinated.
