THE Namibian police in the Ohangwena Region have launched a manhunt after an Angolan man raped a 10-year-old girl at Onambiya village in the Okongo constituency.
The suspect, who was employed as a domestic worker at the house of the victim’s parents, fled before he could be arrested.
According to the police crime report, the rape incident happened on Friday at 01h00.
The suspect allegedly entered the victim’s hut while she was fast asleep and raped her.
The young victim immediately reported the rape to her grandmother, who in turn alerted the police.
In another case of rape, a 16-year-old was drugged and raped by a 17-year-old at Tamariskia, Swakopmund on Friday evening.
According to police, the suspect and victim at suspect’s house when he gave her a glass of alcohol to drink.
“After consuming the alcohol, she felt dizzy and passed out and was raped while she was out,” said the police.
The suspect was arrested and will appear before the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In another incident, the Namibian police in the Omusati Region have yet to arrest a man who raped an 11-year-old girl at Okadhila location at the Ondjeke village, Tsandi constituency.
According to the Omusati Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho, the incident happened on Thursday around 20h00 after the man pulled the victim into an incomplete building and raped her.
Simaho indicated that the suspect, who is not known to the victim, can be recognised once seen by the victim.
He added that a case of rape was opened at Tsandi and that police investigations into the matter continue.
