A QUICK police response and a routine nocturnal patrol thwarted the theft of two vehicles last night.
Two suspected thieves were caught red-handed trying to steal a Toyota Corolla from where it was parked at the Engela Vocational Centre in the Helao Nafidi town.
According to the police’s Inspector Kaume Itumba, the owner of the vehicle was awakened by the suspects’ movements and immediately contacted the police.
The police arrived at the scene while the thieves were still pushing the car away.
They escaped initially, but the police caught up with them and arrested them.
They are expected to appear in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
In a separate incident, a routine police patrol came upon a suspicious Toyota Corolla travelling at night in the Oshikango area.
The driver attempted to speed away and the car landed in a ditch.
The occupants fled the scene, leading the officers to suspect that the vehicle was stolen.
Itumba did not provide the vehicle’s details, but said it is now parked at the Oshikango police station waiting for its rightful owner to claim it.
