MESSAGES of condolence have been pouring in from all over Namibia after news broke that the Wanderers Sports Club in Windhoek has lost two prominent personalities in the span of less than 48 hours.
On Friday, the club received the news that their president, Neels Dodds, has passed on while on his farm in the Kunene Region.
The second tragedy struck on Saturday when the club’s rugby team played a match against the team of Unam.
Before the match, both teams stood for a minute of silence to pay their respects to the late Dodds.
Later during the match, scrumhalf Edwardo Nell sustained an injury that eventually proved to be fatal.
The Wanderers Sports Club issued messages of condolence and with regard to the late club president, they stated that the Wanderers Club has lost one of its biggest legends.
“Oom Neels, you will be sorely missed. There is going to be a gaping hole at the club, knowing that you won’t be around for a cup of coffee, or a nice chat and your sound advice. May you rest in eternal peace, and rest assured, your favourite club is in a great place thanks to your years of support, commitment and service. We will make sure that your legacy will live on out on the field.”
With regard to the untimely passing of Nell, the club stated that this is an extremely sad weekend for Wanderers Sports Club and in particular Wanderers Rugby.
“Losing a player while representing our club is as bad as it gets. Edwardo Nell has been a proud Wanderers player for a few years now. He played scrum half and represented, from the first team to the thirds (as he was doing yesterday against Unam). Our deepest condolences to all friends and family, and may he rest in eternal peace,” the message said.
