A 32-year-old man last night killed his longtime girlfriend and mother to his three children by slitting her throat with a knife at the Oluno village in the Omusati Region.
The 26-year-old Magano Aino Ilonga, a mother to two girls and one boys, ages eight and four years, as well as a nine-month-old baby, was declared dead at the scene after she was slit with an okapi knife.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the brutal incident occurred around 20h00 on Friday.
Shikongo said the deceased was reportedly walking home to Ongwali A village from the Omikwadhaambeli location, where she works at a mahangu grinding business, in the company of another man who is also from the same village.
“When they were approaching the Oluno village, the suspect emerged from the surrounding bushes, attacked the deceased with a pocket knife and stabbed her multiple times, also slitting her throat. The deceased died at the scene of the crime,” he said.
Shikongo added that the couple was reportedly having problems since last week when the deceased made known her intention to end their long term relationship.
The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear before the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
