POLICE officers are foremost for carrying out the law and enforcing it with an iron fist to combat crime across the country.
They are also community focused individuals with a sense of personal responsibility and integrity.
The latter was once again displayed when the Namibian Police’s Oshana Women’s Network on Friday joined the rest of the country to give aid to Angolan nationals currently camping at Etunda at the Elcin centre near Ruacana.
There are currently 2 524 Angolans camping at centre, including 1 524 children, 84 expectant mothers and 179 breastfeeding mothers.

The number, however, continues to rise with new arrivals at the centre recorded every day.
When Informanté visited the centre this week, over 50 Angolan nations could be seen sitting outside the campsite waiting to be registered as new members.
Oshana Regional Commander, Commissioner Rauha Amwele, said the women’s network, which is always looking at ways to support its community, decided to lend a helping hand to the Angolans residing at Etunda.
“Some of the members of the network brought old clothes, while others went deep into their pocket and bought various items,” she said.
The group donated bags of maize meal, mahangu grain, mahangu meal, beans, cooking oil, body soap, snacks, rice, macaroni, masks, blankets, sanitary pads and other items worth over N$100 000.
Omusati governor Erginus Endjala expressed gratitude to those who continue to open their hearts to the Angolans at Etunda, who crossed the border into Namibia due to food shortages in their country following years of drought.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, on his part applauded those at Etunda for maintaining peace and order.
Shikongo noted that poverty and hunger are the main causes of crime in the country, but that despite such hardships, those staying at Etunda have not resorted to disorderly conduct and that the campsite remains crime free.
