THE Namibian Police Force in the Oshana Region is urging its residents to form or join neighbourhood watch groups in order to combat the high number of housebreaking incidents.
This appeal comes after yet another resident of Ongwediva experienced a house break-in at the town.
Tuhafeni Shikongo, a resident of Hanover, reported that his house was left open after unknown persons broke in and stole from him.
“Our houses are being broken into at an alarming rate. One can’t just step out for a little bit without finding it in a messy and shoe prints everywhere,” he said.

Oshana Community Affairs Officer Warrant Frieda Shikole confirmed that there is an increase in house breaking cases at the three major towns in the Oshana Region, namely Ongwediva, Oshakati and Ondangwa.
Shikole added that as a result, the Namibian Police is enforcing foot patrol and increasing police visibility.
“Suspects break into homes to stole electronic equipment, while others are looking for anything portable,” she said.
Shikole then urged home owners not never leave their houses unattended and on occasions when they can’t manage it, to always inform their trusted neighbour about their temporary absence.
