RAUNA Sakeus, an octogenarian resident of the Enghandja village in the Ohangwena Region, died in the Engela district hospital on Tuesday, a day after she was allegedly beaten by her 32-year-old grandson.
The reason for the brutal attack was that she failed to reverse dinner for the alleged perpetrator while he was socialising at nearby shebeens.
According to NamPol’s inspector Kaume Itumba, the suspect arrived back home at around 19:30 and found his grandmother dining with other members of the household.
It is alleged that he immediately started complaining that no dinner was reserved for him, then grabbed a pot and used it to repeatedly hit the helpless elderly woman on the head.
A female family member who tried to intervene was assaulted too.
The 81-year-old was taken to hospital Monday evening and died the following day.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s court today or tomorrow.
